Maurice Murphy to Join Management Department, Fall 2022

We are excited to welcome Maurice J. Murphy, a Ph.D. Candidate in Strategy from the University of Southern California, to the department starting in the fall semester, 2022. Maurice's research interests are in the areas of corporate political strategy, corporate activism, corporate social responsibility, and entrepreneurship. Maurice will provide an important intellectual link between our established research focus on strategic management and corporate governance and our emerging focus on entrepreneurship and innovation. This growth in the area of entrepreneurship and innovation is in conjunction with larger Terry College and University initiatives including the Innovation District, Innovation Hub, and the Terry College's Studio 255 Student Center for Entrepreneurship.

PhD Students Win 2021 SMA Conference Best Paper Awards

Congratulations to Brady Shanklin  and Elle Yoon for winning Best Paper Awards at the Southern Management Association conference.

  • Brady Shanklin, co-authoring with James MatusikRadina Blagoeva, and Daniel Gamache, won the SMA Best Paper Award for the Strategy Track for their paper titled "Power and the People: CEO Structural Power Predicts Indifference towards Social Stakeholders."
  • Elle Yoon, co-authoring with Daniel GamacheJason Kiley (former UGA PhD student), and Mike Pfarrer, won the SMA Best Student Paper Award for the Strategy Track for their paper titled  “Thrust into the Spotlight: The Consequences of Firm Efforts to Promote their New CEOs.”

Management PhD Alumnus Jon Bundy Wins 2021 Strategic Management Society Emerging Scholar Award

Congratulations to graduate Jon Bundy on winning the 2021 SMS Emerging Scholar award. Jon graduated in 2014 and was advised by  Mike Pfarrer. He started his academic career at Penn State University before moving to Arizona State in 2016. You can check out Jon's video address here

Despite a challenging job market influenced by the fallout from COVID-19, each of our 2021 graduates has secured a tenure track position at a top research-focused institution. Congratulations to Rachel, Edwyna, and Eric!
